The Turtles were sarcastic often enough that I suspect they adopted much of the 60s trappings ironically *in the 60s*, which blows my mind. Sarcastic? Yeah: "Eleanor" was explicitly made to mock their record company wanting something vapid - hence being the only band to rhyme "better" with "etcetera".
